The city lies on the River Salzach and on one of the most historically important trade routes across the Alps. Salzburg can look back on a breathtaking history. The old part of the city is effectively enveloped by the Mönchsberg, upon which the Fortress of Hohensalzburg reigns over the city, as can be seen from miles away, and by the Kapuzinerberg, from which an old monastery peers down upon the city below.

On the trail of the “secret” behind Tennengau cheese near of Golling

"Living from the products of our own farm and sustainable management of available resources" – these are the goals of Niki Rettenbacher who, out of profound conviction, has run Fürstenhof organic cheesery as an all-round organic farm since 1999.
Gain insights into organic farming and learn all about the path from milk to high-quality cheese products.

  •  25 different types of cheese, butter, spreads and other dairy products
  • all are produced at the Fürstenhof
  • seasonally produced specialties such as jams, jellies, various types of vinegar, pasta and honey

 

 Information

The farm store of Fürstenhof cheesery is open Monday through Friday from 9 to 5 and Saturday between 9 and noon. Free guided tours by appointment. For larger groups, the Fürstenhof offers a cheese platter with a selection of organic juices and spring water, or a coffee & cake buffet with organic juices, each for just € 6.90 per person.

From the selection of yarns, the dying of fabrics to the final finishing touches, the focus is always on quality of the highest order. Each carpet is custom-tailored to your individual wishes and manufactured exclusively by hand.

Would you like to acquaint yourself with authentic traditions & folk customs?

On the some 340 m² of exhibition space at the Thannhauser Farm Museum, you will find countless fascinating pieces dating from between 1800 and 1930, including farming implements, a mill, an old wash kitchen, historical fruit-processing equipment, an old cobbler’s workshop, as well as a schoolroom from the olden days.

This journey of discovery hosted by Inge, the lady of the farm, is a highlight for the whole family. Allow her to share fascinating tales about life and manual labor in earlier times!

Experience for the family

The Gollinger four seasons path is located at the idyllic Egelsee. Exciting information boards line the leisurely hiking trail. Here the whole family can explore a labyrinth, balance on trees or get to know the surrounding mountain peaks with the help of the newly built panorama board. Enjoy the particularly beautiful view from the romantic park chapel while the children explore the root path.

The hikers are accompanied by the raven Hias all the way. 32 stations, various vantage points and a few box seats await you along the approximately 1 kilometer long path. The circular route is also suitable for prams!

Nature reserved Bluntau valley

Bluntautal valley is a protected nature reserve of unique natural beauty and one of the most enchanting parts of the province of Salzburg.
The crystal clear waters of the ‘Torrener Ache’ reflect the unique alpine environment, and deep green lakes surrounded by luscious pastures play host to playful brook trouts.

 

Highlight

Horse-drawn carriage trips can be taken from Bluntau bridge to the Bärenhof inn, on request.

  • Open all year round. A ten-minute walk from the car park, 45 minutes from the centre of the village (cosy inns and taverns, cafes and restaurants).
  • 3 km from the centre of the village. Parking fees: € 7,00 for cars & bikes, € 28,00 for coaches (year round)

 

Attention!

From 4th April until 31th October there is a general driving ban on the municipal road to the Bluntau valley fom 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Exceptions: vehicles of the forestry, disabled people, cyclers, guests of the Bärenhof, busses and taxis.
