Outings in the Tennengau Region
Trattberg-Almen mountain pastures
The Trattberg-Almen pastures are one of the most popular trips out for our guests. There is a wonderful and extensive area on the Trattberg high plateau which can be reached quickly from Golling for hikers of all ages, by car or by bus.The Trattberg-Almen pastures also have plenty to offer for mountain hikers
and climbers looking for challenges within the Osterhorn mountains.
Lake Seewald
Near the Trattberg-Almen pastures, Lake Seewald is an idyllic and
atmospheric natural lake surrounded by a picturesque landscape of
alpine pastures, which can easily be navigated by families with
children and prams.
After a walk there you can recharge your batteries with
a traditional cold ‘Brettljause’-meal at one of the many, cosy rustic
restaurants or cool down in the lake. Especially
suitable for families; ideal for swimmers, walkers, for flying kites
or simply relaxing!
Lammer Gorge in Scheffau
The point at which the River Lammer breaks through the rocks is one
of the most breathtaking natural wonders in the whole of the province
of Salzburg. This gorge has been accessible to tourists since 1884.
Secure walkways along the rocky walls enable visitors a safe passage.
The path leads down to the thundering waters and provides some
fantastic vantage points. The dark gorge known as the ‘Dunkle Klamm’
is of particular interest, where the rock walls are only a metre apart
and the swirling, crashing waters have carved their way 30 metres
into the mountain.
Scheffau ‘Mühlenrundweg’
The Scheffau ‘Mühlenrundweg’ is a round trip to the many natural places
in this picturesque area which are known to provide visitors with
strength and energy. It carries on past two karst sources on the northern
edge of the Tennengebirge mountains to the Winner waterfalls, which are
swollen at times of extreme snow-thaw and heavy rainfall, and to the
source of the Schwarzenbach river.
The end of the tour into the one direction is marked by the old mill (Alte Mühle),
which is the last remaining facility of the three corn mills originally in operation.
True to historical plans, a marble ball mill has been erected alongside.
Feel the unique atmosphere of the mill walk and draw energy from the natural
powers of the majestic waters.
Dachstein West Mountain Lifts and Railways
Take the skis instead of the lift! That’s the aim of those responsible for the
Dachstein-Krippenstein skiing region. This powerful mountain chain, dominated
by the ‘Hoher Dachstein’, opens up countless opportunities and alternatives
for the skier. At 11km in length and an altitude rise of 1,500 metres, the downhill
slope from Krippenstein via Gjaidalm and Bergdorf Krippenbrunn down to
Obertraun is one of the longest and most interesting descents in Austria.
Both in the broad and expansive Dachstein and the well prepared slopes
there is something for everyone, including the deep snow freaks.
Perfect for walking and hiking trips in the summer - The Gosaukammbahn cable lift takes you up to the dizzy heigts in a matter of minutes opening up an unforgettable alpine panorama: The Dachstein and the Gosau glacier, Lake Gosausee, the Tennengebirge mountains, the High Tauern mountains, the Gosau ridge and all the mountains and pastures of the Salzkammergut region.
All this beauty lies at your feet. At the top of the Gosaukammbahn cable lift
there are many paths for walkers, for those seeking a challenge or a quiet stroll,
for young and old; the Dachstein has something to suit every taste.
